Friday of the Sixth Week of Easter

Greetings GenChrist,

We will not meet this Sunday, thus, our next gathering will be on the evening of Pentecost Sunday, May 31st, at 7:00 p.m.

The Church encourages us to pray novenas - nine-day period of private or public prayer to obtain special graces, to implore special favors, or to make special petitions.  This practice follows, in part, from the nine days that the Blessed Virgin Mary and the apostles spent in prayer between the Thursday of Jesus's Ascension and arrival of the Comforter, the Holy Spirit on Pentecost Sunday.

Please consider joining in the
Novena to the Holy Spirit.  Today is the first day.  Pray that His gifts would be poured-out upon Generation Christ and that we might change the culture of Ann Arbor, Washtenaw County and the world even as His first servants changed Jerusalem, Judea and the world twenty centuries ago.  (It can be hard to remember every day - Scott Richert has a good page where you can sign up for daily email reminders)

Safe travels to all that are away and good times to all who will be in town.  See below for this week's news.

In Christ,
Paul Schultz

Generation Christ Communications Coordinator

Schola Gregoriana

St. Thomas' Latin and English chant schola always wants to welcome new voices to our number.  We sing the 12:30 Mass throughout the academic year to Pentecost and, as able, on occasion during the summer as well.  This summer we will definitely be on hand for Fr. Bill's first Sunday and for Fr. Chas' send-off.

No chant experience is necessary, just a willingness praise God by singing His psalms.  If interested, either email director Timothy Tikker - ttikker at comcast dot net - or come knock on the door under the green awning on Elizabeth at 2:30 p.m. this Saturday and join our practice session.

Delonis Center note
- from Beth Salz

Because of a special staff project at the center, GenChrist will not be going to the Delonis Center this weekend. Mark your calendars for the next opportunity, which will be Sunday, June 28 from 12-5. The kitchen staff is always happy to have additional help, so feel free to show up any day of the week to cook and serve the daily meals. ~Beth

Scythian Concert at The Ark!

Contact: Kirsten Raab
wtcgjh at gmail dot com

As was announced last week, the band Scythian will be performing at The Ark on Monday, July 27 at 8:00 p.m.  Scythian plays kicked-up Celtic, folk and world music, and they deliver it with a high-energy, punk-rock sensibility.  So why should you come to the concert?  You should come because Scythian's live shows are an incredible experience!  Their natural talent as awesome musicians combined with the powerful energy that they pour into every show makes for a performance that you won't forget!  I never used to really care all that much about music, especially live music, but I saw Scythian for the first time last September and they honestly blew me away.  This concert won't be like anything you've experienced before -- guaranteed -- and I've got until July 27th to convince you of that!  To that end I will be including a "Scythian Video of the Week" in each of the Weekly Updates leading up to the concert on July 27th.  So to kick things off I'm going to start the same way the band originally started: on an Irish note.  Before branching out to include multiple genres in their music, Scythian began by simply playing Celtic music on the streets of Old Town Alexandria.  This video isn't from Old Town, but it still demonstrates how Scythian does Irish music.

Scythian Video of the Week #1:
"Donegal Reel" from the 2008 Kansas City Irish Festival

Tickets for the Scythian concert can be purchased online at
www.theark.org
or you can get them from me during our fellowship hour after GenChrist and avoid the online surcharge!  They are only $12.50 which is a very good price to see a show at The Ark.  I hope you all can make it, and stay tuned for next week's video!     ~Kirsten

May 24 = World Communications Day

Since the Second Vatican Council, the last Sunday before Pentecost is celebrated as World Communications Day.  This year, Pope Benedict has released a speech for this day, focusing on the idea of friendship and of bringing our witness to the digital world: New Technologies, New Relationships.  Promoting a Culture of Respect, Dialogue and Friendship.

Also on this occasion, the Pontifical Council for Social Communications has released Pope2you, a gateway to various facebook, youtube, iPhone and other applications that have been developed for sharing the Good News.

We have recently edited the settings to make it easier to join GenChrist's facebook group.  Please feel free to join this group or to use its Facebook presence in whatever way you can think of to build-up the Social Kingship of Christ.
